Best Episode: Dying For Sex- Now that we got the how and why out of the way in the pilot, we are now in the discovery portion of the show, which is far more interesting. episode 2 is hilarious, and the cast is excellent. not in my car!
Runner Up: Last Week Tonight- Oliver got a lot of shit after the show aired once again from JK Rowling, and I stand with Oliver. he spent almost an hour going through all the various facets of the problematic conversation we keep having regarding trans athletes in sports, which is largely just a conservative dog whistle, which he even directly quotes conservative think tanks that explain they pivoted to trans athletes as a way to start legislating transgenderness on the whole because bathroom bills don’t work. Doesn’t anyone ever realize why all of a sudden their news channel and their politicians are suddenly talking about something like it is the boogeyman and the reason for all of their problems? If allows people to pivot away from talking about actual issues, because they know they can bait you with trans athletes, critical race theory, and DEI, instead of having to directly have a substantial plan to fix the economy beyond tariffs.
Best Audio Description: The White Lotus- There were so many wonderful and well described moments in the finale. The description team found very poetic ways to talk about the ocean, drowning, blending, and peeling apart fruit. Of course, the cast was busy wrapping up the myriad of storylines, but the AD team was painting a Picasso.
Runner Up: Dying For sex- this show does not hold back, which is great.
Best Performance: Michelle Williams (Dying For Sex)- Man, she really comes alive in the second episode. Now that her character has decided what she’s looking for, and can actually look for it, she is basically off the leash. It feels like the least Michelle Williams performance ever, but I think probably for a lot of women, this show is super relatable, and so is she.
Runner Up: Jason Isaacs And The Ensemble Of The White Lotus (The White Lotus)- I have to give props definitely to Isaacs whose character battled with a lot in the final episode, but also the ensemble. not everyone deserved a nomination this year, but they all helped to solidify a show that remains engaging, different, and a water cooler moment when we no longer seem to have those.
Best Moment Of audio Description: Blending In (The White Lotus)- The description of Jason Isaacs using the blender is really poetic. Truly.
Runner Up: I Changed My Mind (Dying For Sex)- There’s a moment where it looks like Williams might be getting some action, but decides otherwise, and instead goes upstairs to… live out a fantasy… by herself. Masturbation is in the title of the episode, in case you really aren’t picking up what I’m putting down.
Worst Of…- I feel like I’m willing myself to watch Pulse, but the correct answer to this is American Idol, which still doesn’t have audio description, despite all of its like-minded contemporaries that have as many seasons as it does all seemingly having audio description. It. is. Time.
