The Small Screen Diaries- 03/01/25

I did a quality check post for the first episode of Toxic Town, if you are interested in that full breakdown of thoughts.

TV Shows Watched: Yellowjackets: S3E3 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, Zero Day: S1E3 (Netflix) with audio description, Berlin ER: S1E2 (Apple Plus) with audio description, The Traitors: S3E11 (Peacock) with audio description, Toxic Town: S1E1 (Netflix) with audio description, Daily Show: Thursday (Paramount Plus) no audio description, Matlock: S1E? (Paramount Plus) with audio description, The Americas: S1E1 (Peacock) with audio description, and I actually rewatched Suits: LA S1E1 (Peacock) with audio description.

Best Episode: Yellowjackets- Man, this episode goes off the rails in the last third of the episode. I loved it. Totally insane though.

Runner Up: Zero Day (Netflix)- a pretty solid thriller thus far.

Best Audio Description: Yellowjackets- I have to give it love for the last third of the episode. The cave sequence is just bonkers.

Runner Up: The Americas- While this show is very much not my thing, it is a nature doc. Sadly, like they did with SNL, the balance just isn’t right, and the audio description is much louder than the show. But this is basically Tom Hanks and a narrator trying desperately to get in as much nature stuff as possible. if the balance had been better, i would have flipped the two shows.

Best Performance: Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets)- I mean, really, multiple cast members, including the younger version of herself killed it this episode. But, damn Gina. When she finds Lottie giving her daughter soup, she flips her absolute shit. She took the whole day for me.

Runner Up: The Rest Of The Yellowjackets- Episode 3 of Yellowjackets was just on another level. So many terrific performances, but I had to single out Melanie.

Best Moment Of Audio Description: Cave Dwellers (Yellowjackets)- Basically, the whole cave sequence. Definitely from the moment the group splits up.

Runner Up: Fighting Horses (The americas)- One of the first things in the show are these wild horses, and there’s a fight between horses. I did not realize horses really fought. But, now that question is asked and answered in my brain. At least the wild horses do.

Worst of… I was a little hard on the actresses of Suits LA. It is the writing, not them. After rewatching the pilot, their characters, along with basically everyone, is just not well written. however, Toxic Town has the worst audio description, full of characters with absolutely no descriptive qualities. I broke the whole thing down. For The Traitors, which typically has shit audio description, I thought it was one of their less shitty episodes. I was slightly confused by the challenges, but tracking the six remaining contestants was done well. I guess it is a numbers thing for them.
