Best Episode: From- This show really is letting the mystery out in these really small pieces. I’m loving it. What is up with Sarah? Has Victor been there that long? Plus, we learn that people get there, no matter where they were, which is somehow more terrifying, that they could be pulled from anywhere in the country.
Runner Up: the Night Agent- I did enjoy the episode that had them infiltrate the consulate, but also dealt with Katherine trying to figure out what to do with the ashes.
Best Performance: Catalina Sandino Moreno (From)- the Oscar nominated actress was given more to do in the fourth episode, as her husband has taken up a lot of air until now. But as she ruminates on being where she is, in that house, drinking from that mug, with everything that happened there, you remember why some 20 years ago she secured an Oscar nomination to begin with.
Runner Up: Michael Chernow (From)- victor. I don’t know what is in our main family’s past for them to be so freaked out by Victor, but he seems weird in a very different way than I think the dad is interpreting. but, Victor was such an an anchor in this episode, and seeing his interactions with our newest child to join wherever the hell they are feels off… and then we get to the tree, and realize that maybe Victor knows more than everyone else.
Additional Runner Up- in case you are bothered that I named two actors out of the same show, that’s because From is on a different level. However, this was my second time through both The Substance and Sing Sing, so I could tag Demi Moore or Coleman Domingo, who are both brilliant.
Best Audio Description: From- This show lends itself to having depth in description, with the unknown almost science fiction elements, but also stark moments of abject horror as well. Plus, Roy’s narration is great.
Runner Up: Wags to Riches- This format is difficult to get substantial audio description for, and I think DVW is doing a bang up job here, and I love this narrators voice. He’s someone I need to memorize, and he needs to work a lot more. He’s like the new Ron Snow. Love the deep baritone.
best Moment Of Audio Description: Victor Does Weird Shit (from)- I’m gonna tag just about every weird thing he did, from the flashback, to hole digging, plus the details about his lunchbox. We learned a lot more about Victor.
Runner Up: Sarah Gets A Message (From)- That sequence was done really well also.
Worst Of…?- I’m starting to pay more attention, after the other day, when i tagged Abbott Elementary, to the programs I watch with someone else, and without letting them know I need or don’t need help, how much they feel like they have to step in where the audio description is struggling. Of the three shows that qualified, Virgin River, The Rookie, and The Daily Show (which notably had NO audio description), they actually jumped in quite a bit during The Rookie with visual cues I was missing, which was surprising, because I’m not sure I’ve ever pegged that for lack of audio description. burn now that I’m paying attention, it did feel like there were some other things happening that never made it to the audio description. I know the balance is always finding beats where we can put in some description, and figuring out what to do. I love this show, and I’m surprised, but I have to tag the Rookie today. there was a noticeable diffference in the amount of times they chimed in versus the other two programs.
