YouTube: Breakfast All Day (Top 10 of 2024)
Movies: None. i started to watch something called The Magic Penguin which was new on Prime, made it a little ways into the movie, and decided there was a better use of my life. It doesn’t have audio description, and seemed awful.
Best Episode: From- By a hair. from is still in this world building phase, where a lot of questions about the world they live in still have not been answered. The show is kind of scary in that way, because the ominous feeling that danger is near never leaves, because you don’t understand the rules to the game yet.
Runner Ups: Everything Else- I did really enjoy every single episode yesterday. A rarity.
Best Performance: I’m in complete dereliction, but I’m not even sure which character had that moment in From. but, in From, there was a character that recounted how she got there, and the moment spent with her was terrific. I’m still learning who all these people are, and i didn’t even catch the character name yet to use iMDB. But that moment was terrifying and terrific. Kudos… whoever you are.
Best Audio Description (tie): Goosebumps and From: both shows have a lot of ground to cover. From has these scary interactions, and heavy amounts of gore, but Goosebumps also has quite a bit, deceptively so, in the horror realm.
Best Moment Of Audio Description: From- There were a couple of moments, but honestly, just the scene where the gang is running, and then another group appears behind them, and there’s that uneasy feeling that something is not right. the audio description fully supports it by describing the look on the faces of the second group, which seems to be a recurring theme. It is like watching Smile, in some regards, but with a very different pacing.
Runner up: Goosebumps: The show has done an excellent job tracking the black substance, from moving up the gear shift, to interacting with the kombucha. Then, you have David Schwimmer using some of it as a version of a compass. Very well done, and all a visual cue that would be missed without audio description.
