TV News: reacher returns for a third season in February. Is your body ready?
TV Shows Watched: Goosebumps: S1E2 (Disney Plus) with audio description, on Call: S1E3 (Amazon) with audio description, Bookie: S2E5 (MAX) with audio description, Going Dutch: S1E1 (Hulu) no audio description
Movies Watched: None. Work.
Best Episode: Bookie- From seeing Ray Romano playing a character, in the same show where Brad Garrett just played himself, to that excellent fight at the end, and the whole “holding the pillow” thing, Bookie was a lot of fun this week.
Best Performance: Denis Leary (Going Dutch)- I’ve missed this guy. I wish this series had audio description. Leary is well cast, as a military hard ass, in a silly comedy about a military base in the Netherlands where Hakuna Matata seems to be their marching orders. Also, shoutout to Danny Pudi for the same show. I’m also a fan of his, since Community.
Best Audio description: Goosebumps- the audio description for On call is really good too, but Goosebumps just has so much more weird horror things to have to describe.
Best Moment Of Audio Description: goosebumps: i could fill this category with little moments. even ones having to do with the dead animals that David Schwimmer keeps bringing home. I liked how it described the stiffness of the frozen mouse’s tail, or how he stepped in the door with a large and heavy package, taking time to reveal to us moments later it was a goat cadaver. But, the top moment has to be in the creature feature department, with Frankie in the basement. She finds something, and when she does, it is well described… especially for Goosebumps. My God. Is this the kids version of The Substance?
Worst Of…Anything?: Well, yeah, the lack of audio description on going Dutch has me conflicted about adding another series without audio description into my rotation. It’s not destined for awards or anything, but I’d be lying if I said i didn’t think this pilot was stronger than every new network sitcom pilot from the fall except St. Dennis medical. I’ve given Happy’s Place eight episodes so far, Papa’s house about the same, I’m likely to keep watching Shifting Gears, and I even gave Georgie And Mandy a second episode. I feel like I gotta keep going. either that, or purge some mediocre freshmen comedies from my lineup.
