Thoughts on The Secret of Sinchanee
Characters & Performances – Will Stark was once a survivor of one of the incidents in the area, now he has returned, he has found himself getting haunted by a presence, making him a prime suspect in a new string of murders. He must learn about what once happened to him, if he is prove whether he was involved in the incidents. Detective Carrie Donovan is one of the leads on the case, along with her partner Drew Carter, the pair have a child together and must put aside their differences to raise her, but this case starts to get closer to them, closer than they could imagine. The performances from the three leads in the film are strong with each one showing moments of uncertainty they are going through, diving deeper into the world they are fighting.
Story – The story here takes a man back to his childhood home, where an incident happened in his childhood, with his return seeing the same moments coming to the area, making him a prime suspect in the investigation about what happened and what is happening, as the case gets closer than expected for the detectives in charge. This is a story that dives into legend of an area, which will see detectives getting caught up in the middle of a legend, getting more involved in the case than they could ever imagine. It spins how the detectives get involved, firstly having their personal life together being filled with tension that they must put aside for the greater good of their daughter and professional careers, while dragging them into the world, moves the focus onto potential new victims. The idea about the house and the man starting to see things, does come off creepy for the most part, but does seem to fall behind the detective’s bigger picture to this story. The story will have a creepy and unsettling feeling throughout, making the audience surprised by the different direction we go.
Themes – The Secret of Sinchanee is a horror mystery that doesn’t hold back on the disturbing moments of horror, using the slow building for a shock moment here and there. The mystery is what makes everything shine, seeing where this one goes, using a legend to make the most of the history of the land. The location is key, because of the history that has been built up over the years.
Final Thoughts – The Secret of Sinchanee is an unsettling horror mystery that will surprise us around every corner.
