As Scott Calvin is about to become a father again, he is struggling to balance being Santa and keeping everyone in his family happy. Not forgetting that Jack Frost is plotting to take over Christmas . . .
Oh yes the third installment in The Santa Clause series of films, is not fantastic at all. That’s the only way I can honestly start this review, I have found myself watching it quite a few times as well. Not because it is actually good, but its a Christmas film after all? I’m clutching at straws a little bit here trying to be a little bit positive.
So the story starts off as Carol is ready to give birth to their first child and Scott is starting to feel the pressure. Even more so when Jack Frost decides to try to steal Christmas the jealously of Santa having his own holiday is driving him mad. After a meeting with other legendary figures including Mother Nature, Father Time, Cupid, Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy. So it is trying to take it to the next level. We did meet most of those characters in film two.
It also goes down the “It’s A Wonderful Life” theme, where Scott gets to see what his life would be like if he never became Santa. Not a common theme in Christmas films at all is it? Just a little bit, but I guess it was just trying way too hard to be a lot deeper than it was ever going to be.
I will admit that I cannot help but laugh at some of the moments Martin Short is in as Jack Frost. He is just a hilarious man, in which ever role and film he appears in. Maybe not in a good way in this one, but I guess he didn’t write the script. He could have been a fantastic Jack Frost, if only the story wasn’t rubbish and you see him as Jack Frost/Santa singing and dancing around.
This film really loses the magic what was created in the first two films, ok mainly the first film. But I am trying to be nicer about the second one after watching the third part. But this is really lacking a lot compared to the first film. Might as well just give this one a miss really, as it doesn’t give you anything new in terms of Christmas films and a story about Santa.
