So, for Christmas this year, I decided to do a little “review” of one of my favorite Holiday Classics. For me, The Santa Clause always has a special place in my heart. I was still a kid when it came out in theatres the first time, so it gets solid points each time for nostalgic purposes. But, even now, as a 30 something adult, I still enjoy The Santa Clause. I love how it really is about Christmas, not just a film set at Christmas time, and it represents Tim Allen at a time when he was Tim Allen. He was one of the biggest stars in the 90’s. Home Improvement was huge, The Santa Clause boosted his career, and then he was Buzz Lightyear. Tim Allen is SO 90’s.

I’ve seen this film probably 10-12 times over my lifetime, so I put “review” in quotes. It’s hard to review a film I already love so much. I find that no matter how much I’m told to hate a film, if I loved it as a kid, I still love it as an adult. I reviewed Hook after Robin Williams’s death, and gave it an A. Hook has a 30% on Rotten Tomatoes. So, there’s that. But at least The Santa Clause sits at 75%. I now feel less bad about giving it an A.

If you haven’t seen the original (the sequels are just so-so), definitely check it out with your family. It will absolutely put you in the Christmas spirit.

FINAL GRADE: A
