The Rise of the Silver Fox

Posted on the 14 September 2011 by Karibestrycki @bloglikeitshot

A few days ago, I was reminded of my high school accounting teacher…he was a silver fox. I will readily admit that I loved him and tried to use various pickup lines on him during class. My attempts failed…still trying to get over that loss. With a few more years of life under my belt, I have realized I am not a girl…but I am a woman who hasn’t gotten over my love of the silver fox.

For those that have no idea what a silver fox is, I will deliver an invaluable piece of knowledge to you. According to UrbanDictionary.com, a silver fox is “an attractive older man. Generally, one that has gray hair and is often desired by younger women.”

Below I will go through my top 3 silver foxes in the public eye:

John Slattery

While everyone is fawning over Jon Hamm on “Mad Men,” this lady is staring at Mr. Silver Fox Slattery. John plays Roger Sterling on AMC’s hit television show and adds hilarious commentary and a swagger that is burned into my memory for life.

August 13, 1962 was a good day. Why you ask? Slattery and his birthday suit were born in Boston. He received a Bachelors of Fine Arts from The Catholic University of America and has been acting since 1989.

Slattery has guest starred on many notable television shows including, “Will & Grace” (played Will’s brother), “Sex & The City” (played politician Bill Kelley) and “Desperate Housewives” (played Eva’s second husband).

In an article with the NY Daily News, Slattery revealed his hair started turning in his 20s.

Dear John – Too bad you are married or I would be chasing you down the street with a net trying to capture you. I guess the closest I’ll get is purchasing the Roger Sterling Barbie Doll.

Dr. Drew Pinsky

Not only is this man a silver fox, but he is also a doctor! Can life get any better?

We know Dr. Drew from the radio show “Loveline.” Fun fact: the radio show actually grew from a segment titled, “Ask a Surgeon” on KROQ-FM. Dr. Drew wasn’t a doctor yet, he was still in med school…I’m not sure how legal that was, but I would follow this man to the gates of hell if he guided me.

Soon, “Ask a Surgeon” grew into “Loveline,” which Dr. Drew co-hosted along with Jim Trenton. The radio show grew into an MTV television show hosted by Dr. Drew and Adam Carolla. These two (mostly Dr. Drew) gave us real advice on how to be safe while (for lack of a better term) getting it in.

Recently, Dr. Drew has been all up in our grills lately…on VH1′s “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” and on HLN’s “Dr. Drew” where he discusses major stories going on in the media and analyzes the people involved with his sexy brain.

Fun fact: Dr. Drew appeared on “Wheel of Fortune” in 1984, but didn’t win any cash money. He also appeared on season 6 of “Dawson’s Creek.” That’s when I knew he was a legitimate doctor that could double as my life coach.

While I couldn’t find exactly when Dr. Drew turned gray, I realized that it doesn’t matter…because he is a silver fox that could treat me any day of the week.

Anderson Cooper

I’m going to make a decision…decision made: Anderson Cooper is my favises silver fox. He has many attributes that elevate his silver fox status. For one thing, he is a Vanderbilt…I wonder if he is a fan of long train rides?

Anderson has been in the public eye since he was 3-years-old…his first television appearance was not on CNN, but “The Tonight Show.”

Of course, Anderson was a child model. He fiercely worked that runway wearing Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Macy’s clothes. Another reason to love this man, he is very well educated. This silver fox attended a little known institution called Yale University and interned with the CIA. I bet he looked great in the black spandex outfits that I believe all secret agents wear…thank you “Alias.”

While Anderson has a vast career history, he is a staple on CNN. This network places my favises silver fox in natural disasters, wars and every other major event(s) in the world. Hopefully, he has a helmet and a bulletproof vest.

Anderson – you look great in all situations and I felt happy on the inside when I found out you started going grey in college. I would have been all. over. that. Keep is silver, Anderson!
