Sometimes you watch a movie, and it is unexpectedly good. Ryan Kwanten has charm for days on True Blood, and somehow it works really well in a romantic comedy. I don’t know why Hollywood hasn’t called on him more, for some actual film roles… instead of random films that end up on Netflix before you even knew the film existed.
Where did this film come from? I have no idea. It just kept popping up in my Netflix feed, and I finally gave in. I decided I wanted to see Kwanten play something other than Jason Stackhouse. In many ways, this role is just like Jason. He’s charming, goofy, and not necessarily bright. He’s a little smarter here, but not super smart. Kwanten is great at playing a slacker type of role.
The plot is pretty cute. A guy is dumped by his girlfriend, who had been writing a blog about how terrible of a boyfriend he was. He falls head over heels for another girl, who is married to a rich douchebag, but he has to prove to her that he’s more than what’s written in the book. He has to become a better man for her.
Sara Canning is really charming in her part too, which surprised me, because all I know her from is The Vampire Diaries. Two people famous for vampire television shows came together and made a charming romantic comedy.
I’ve seen a few things on Netflix that I had no idea existed until they were there, and they’ve surprised me. This is definitely worth checking out.
