Faced with the success of The Resident since its launch on the air on April 22, TF1 continues its momentum and continues this evening with the second season of the medical series led by Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp, and Manish Dayal. A new salvo composed this time of 23 episodes (against 14 previously) which gives us its share of twists and turns, between a start to the season under tension, the arrival of new characters who will make things happen, a new great story intrigue red, and some more or less unexpected returns ...

A first electric episode

After an eventful season 1 finale, marked by the arrest of Lane Hunter (Melina Kanakaredes) and the arrival of Conrad's father as head of the hospital's board of directors, season 2 of The Resident begins without time dead by offering us a breathtaking opening episode during which the staff of the Chastain Memorial must face a general power cut. While everyone redoubles their ingenuity to care for their patients, without the precious help of technology, Mina (Shaunette Renée Wilson) and AJ must at all costs reach the end of the delicate heart operation they are in the process of lead on a baby just out of the mother's womb. Conrad and Devon, for their part, go against the rules set by Randolph (Bruce Greenwood), who ordered not to admit any patient before the end of the outage, and decide to take care of a young boy injured by ball. But while everyone is working to save lives despite the difficult situation, Randolph learns through the head of the IT department that the power outage is not due to lightning and is actually the work of a hacker ...

Characters gain importance and others arrive

If Moran Atias (Renata), Merrin Dungey (Claire Thorpe), and Melina Kanakaredes (Lane) no longer appear in the credits of the series, this season 2 of The Resident allows two characters introduced during season 1 to gain importance since Malcolm-Jamal Warner, aka cardiothoracic surgeon AJ Austin, and Glenn Morshower, who plays Marshall Winthrop, Conrad's father, are now part of the regular cast. They will thus be much more present on the air and the "relationship" between AJ and Mina will continue to be developed and evolve.

As for the new faces, this second batch will be notably marked by the arrival of Jane Leeves (Frasier) in the role of Kit Voss, an orthopedic surgeon who will mentor the young doctors of the Chastain Memorial and who will gradually closer to Bell. But fans of Sexy Dance and Witches of East End will also recognize Jenna Dewan, who joins season 2 repeatedly as Julian Booth, a young woman who works as a commercial for the company QuoVadis, who will play a role very important in these new episodes. And it is Michael Weston, seen in Dr House and more recently in Home Before Dark, who will lend his features to Gordon Page, the boss of this firm specializing in medical equipment.

A final twist in the plot of Lane Hunter

Although she left the series at the end of the season 1 finale, Melina Kanakaredes, who had signed up for only one season, will reappear for two episodes of this second season in order to put an end to it to the intrigue of his character. Because Lane is determined to get out of prison and will try to blackmail Randolph, who betrayed her, in order to achieve this. Will it achieve its ends? Response mid-season. The "wicked" of the first episodes of The Resident will not be the only character to resurface during this second season since Jessie (Julianna Guill), Nic's sister, will return to the life of the latter and him cause trouble again. The opportunity for the writers to explore a little more the past of the nurse embodied by Emily VanCamp by also introducing her father, Kyle Nevin, interpreted by Corbin Bernsen.

A new great red thread plot

If The Resident stands out in particular from other medical series by the often alarming observation that it draws up from the American health system, it also manages to blow a little freshness on a genre already well explored by offering each season a great red thread intrigue thriller, like a police series or a thriller that each year tells a new investigation. After Lane's embezzlement last season, place this year in an even greater "enemy" since it is the company QuoVadis which will gradually reveal its gray areas after having sold medical equipment to the hospital and may not be as respectable and reliable as it seems.
