America. What have you done? Jason Blum has confirmed what everyone suspected. The Purge 2 is officially greenlit at Universal. That idea became a no-brainer when the film that cost only 3 million to make ended up making over 10 times that opening weekend. And for the more astute, you may have noticed that The Purge 2 was also a winner a few weeks ago of the California Tax Credit Lottery (even though the project hadn’t been formally announced). Well, now you know. I wouldn’t be surprised if they could churn one out a year, like the Paranormal Activity movies, or Saw. I would expect to see The Purge 2 next summer (probably July or August).
