The Pull List: Must Read Comics of 6/5/2013

Alan Moore

Fashion Beast #10

By: Alan Moore, Facundo Percio

Publisher: Avatar Press

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: This is the last issue from Alan Moore’s long lost masterpiece (that’s a strong word) that was originally intended to be a screenplay if I remember correctly. It’s Beauty and the Beast meets the cutthroat fashion industry meets the end of the world (?). Ridiculous stuff!

Suicide Risk #2

By: Mike Carey, Elena Casagrande, Tommy Lee Edwards

Publisher: Boom! Studios

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: The first issue was pretty damn cool! So you definitely should check out this brand new look at superheroes in the real world.

Superman

Action Comics #21

By: Andy Diggle, Tony S. Daniel

Publisher: DC Comics

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: The solicitation says that Superman is betrayed by his own DNA. I’m hoping for a Bizzarro lead up since he is definitely getting showcased in September during villain month. Plus, the back up story is going to be the origin of Parasite in the new 52.

Astro City

Astro City #1

By: Kurt Busiek, Brent Eric Anderson, Alex Ross

Publisher: DC Comics

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: Astro City is BACK! And so is its award winning creative team. Not sure why it is at DC Comics, but it is, so so what?

Justice Society

 Earth 2 #13

By: James Robinson, Yildiray Cinar, Brett Booth

Publisher: DC Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: Woohoo! New Earth 2 characters (which are actually old characters made a-new). This time around Captain Steel is making an appearance, after his debut in the Earth 2 Annual. His mission is to dive into the volcano pits left by Darkseid before Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman died kicking him off the planet.

Green Lantern

Green Lantern #21

By: Robert Venditti, Billy Tan

Publisher: DC Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: This is the first Green Lantern issue after Geoff Johns exit of the series. With the Guardians gone for good, who becomes the new leader? Hal Jordan! Who else? Good to know the Hal-worshipping is continuing without Johns /sarcasm.

Jonathan Hickman

East Of West #3

By: Jonathan Hickman, Nick Dragotta

Publisher: Image Comics

Price: $3.50

The Lowdown: I LOVE THIS BOOK! Simple as that!

X-Men

All New X-Men #12

By: Brian Michael Bendis, Stuart Immonen

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: Young Cyclops meets the younger brother he never thought he was going to see again, except he is actually older. The New X-Men vs the Uncanny X-Men.

Daredevil

Daredevil Dark Nights #1 (of 8)

By: Lee Weeks

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: A new miniseries about Daredevil trying to save a sick kid during a New York blizzard.

Daredevil

Daredevil End Of Days #8 (of 8)

By: Brian Michael Bendis, Klaus Janson, Alex Maleev

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: As one new Daredevil story starts, another one ends. This is essentially Dardevil’s The End story (remember when Marvel was going The End crazy).

Kick Ass

Kick-Ass 3 #1 (of 8)

By: Mark Millar, John Romita

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: I’m not a big fan of Kick-Ass comics. Nor the movies. Not the so-called “Millar-verse.” But I know people are, so here’s a gentle reminder. Kick-Ass 3 debuts this week.

X-Men

X-Factor #257

By: Peter David, Neil Edwards, David Yardin

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: This is the first issue of the last issues of Peter David’s long run on X-Factor, which has had its ups and downs, but has solidified Jamie Madrox as one of my favorite Marvel characters.
