Batman

Earth 2 Annual #1

By: James Robinson, Yildiray Cinar, Andy Kubert

Publisher: DC Comics

Price: $4.99

The Lowdown: Earth 2 went from a “hey, this is a cool read” to “meh” back to “hey this is a cool read” pretty quickly. I’m thinking I just jumped the gun wanted to cast off some comics. Now, in its first annual a new Batman debuts. I honestly don’t know if this is good or bad. I thought the whole point was to be a world without a Batman (or a Superman or a Wonder Woman). I’m sure whoever turns out to be under the cowl will be pretty interesting.

Scott Snyder

The Wake #1 (of 10)

By: Scott Snyder, Sean Murphy

Publisher: DC Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: I believe this is the series that Scott Snyder put American Vampire on hold for, so let’s hope its worth it. Frankly, Snyder has been on one hell of a hot streak. It sounds very Prometheus-esque except instead of finding answers in the stars, they find it on the ocean floor. Depending on who you are, that could be a good thing or a bad thing.

MAR130478

Thief Of Thieves #14

By: Robert Kirkman, Shawn Martinbrough

Publisher: Image Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: Andy Diggle (Green Arrow: Year One, The Losers, Judge Dredd) joins the Thief of Thieves writing team for an explosive new arc where Conrad finds himself up against a cartel boss named Lola.

X-Men

Uncanny X-Force #5

By: Sam Humphries, Ron Garney, Kris Anka

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: So it turns out Bishop was actually being mind-controlled/possessed by someone else which is why he was acting like a such a dick. I wonder if they will retcon that going all the way back to Messiah Complex. anyway, Psylocke dives deep into his mind so that they can save the little girl that that entity has moved on to. The solicits claims that one of the biggest X-Villains of the past 20 years is going to attack the team. No good guesses from me, but this has Shadow King written all over it.

X-Men

X-Men #1

By: Brian Wood, Olivier Coipel

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: Finally, the often spoken about all female X-Men title is finally debuting, and for some silly reason its called, X-Men. It all starts when an old villain shows up to the academy seeking asylum from a big bad from ancient times. Meanwhile, Jubilee, who I think is still a vampire, is protecting an orphaned baby who might be the key to this whole mess with the villain and the ancient evil and what-not. By the way, did I mention all female. Check out that line-up: Storm, Rogue, Kitty, Rachel, Psylocke, Jubilee. Those are some heavy hitters.
