Must read comics coming out the week of 6/3/2014

Batman

Batman Eternal #13

Weekly series kind of bug me, but Batman Eternal is really entertaining. I think maybe I had a contemporary Batman shaped hole in my reading. Snyder has been working on Zero Year for so long and with the added issues, he can really dive into the cast of characters and the full scope of Gotham’s underbelly.

Deadpool

Deadpool vs. X-Force #1

Flashback! Back in the good old days of the 1990s, Deadpool was not always the cool fan-favorite anti-hero he is today. He was a really big thorn in the side of Cable and his X-team spinoff, X-Force. So for all time’s sake, how about 4 issues of Deadpool vs X-Force.

East Of West #13

This book. This book! It’s a friggin’ trip, and unfortunately, I don’t always remember what just happened in the previous issues. But it is awesome. In a weird Kubrick meets Gilliam meets Tolkien meets Alan Moore kind of way.

Fairest #27

One of my favorite characters from the “Fables” series was Reynard the Fox. He was one of the characters who was stuck in his animal form, thus he was not allowed to leave the farm. Well, in this issue he gets the ability to turn into a man, just like Bigby, and starts exploring the world.

Hack Slash Son Of Samhain #1

Cassie Hack is back. She retired and then got pulled into a deadite hunt with Ash from Evil Dead. When a cult of monsters pops up, she comes out of retirement for a second time. Anything to see Cassie keep kicking ass.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Legendary Star Lord #1

With Guardians of the Galaxy movie right around the corner, Marvel is really selling the team. Star-Lord is getting his own series with an upgrade to the movie costume. from that crappy mecharmor Bendis had him in.

Nailbiter #3

My new favorite series? I think so. A US Marshall and the local sheriff investigate how this small town could possibly home to so many serial killers. You know what this town needs? Cassie Hack!

Original Sin #5

This event feels like it is moving along briskly. The last 2 issues seems both ended on the kind of final pages that make me immediately want to read the next. I just could not wait for this issue to come out. Jason Aaron is just knocking it out of the park, even though he seemed to have missed the last Winter Soldier solo.

Robocop #1

A new on-going about Alex Murphy and his partner, Anne Lewis. It seems to be spinning off from the original 80s classic and possibly even ignoring the lesser sequels.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Rocket Raccoon #1

Not one, but 2 (actually 3 on the solicit but I decided to cut one) Guardian of the Galaxy spinoffs just in time for everyone to see the movie and fall in love with the some of my favorite characters. The best one being Rocket, the sarcastic and ill-tempered gung-slinging raccoon who is sure to burrow himself into the hearts of fan-boys and -girls alike. I’m excited because it is being written and drawn by Skottie Young, who has a cool scribbly Saturday morning cartoon style.

Thor God Of Thunder #24

The epilogue to Jason Aaron’s Roxxon arc. Thor has to deal with the consequences from his fight against Roxxon, one that affects Jane Foster. While elder Thor must contend with the fall of Galactus.
