Must read comics of the week

Avengers

Avengers and X-Men: Axis #1

Honestly, this is a weird event. It isn’t center stage. The shit that Jonathan Hickman is working on is center stage. Marvel has all these b-plot events in the universe, kind of crazy. Honestly, under different circumstances, I would probably ignore it, but this is just more and more built up from Rick Remender’s collective work. From the awesome Uncanny X-Force to the almost as good Uncanny Avengers and now this.

Batman

Batgirl #35

A new creative team is taking over, and to be completely honest, I wasn’t a fan of what Gail Simone was doing with the character since the dawn of the new 52. I hope this injects the book into must read territory. I already am digging the art except for the super teen cliche cover art.

Batman

Batman #35

Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s new arc starts here. No clue what its about, but it kind of doesn’t matter at this point.

Batman

Batman Eternal #27

Shit is hitting the fan and its Catwoman to the rescue.

Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel #8

As it turns out, Carol’s cat isn’t really a car at all. Just like Rocket isn’t really a raccoon.

Klarion #1

New series about the witch boy himself. The only thing is this her isn’t standing against the forces of chaos, its standing for them.

The October Faction #1

It’s almost Halloween and Steve Niles has a new book out. Of course I am going to recommend it. Starring a Addams family for a new generation, a retired monster hunter lives with his family composed of a thrill-killer, a witch, and a warlock.

Punks the Comic #1

The cult comedy returns? Returns? This is a sequel. I guess I’m going to have to pick up the original since this madcap surrealist book sounds crazy.

Sabrina #1

If I could recommend just one issue this week it would be this one. Spinning out of Afterlife with Archie (although not sharing continuity), the surprisingly awesome horror story from Archie Comics comes a new Teen-rated take on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. If it is anything like the Sabrina detour the Afterlife series took, than it will be cool, kooky, and inspired by HP Lovecraft.

Thanos A God Up There Listening #1

Marvel is really selling Thanos ever since that after credits shot in the Avengers movie. Luckily, this one isn’t necessarily about Thanos It’s about Thane, the long lost son of Thanos, who I thought was supposed to be a big deal back during Infinity. He kind of just came and went, but now he is back. Hope he lives up to the hype.

Wytches#1

Scott Snyder is starting a new horror story about the secret history of witches (namely the secret that all those non-witches were protecting when they were killed during the witch trials) along with super-cool artist behind The Losers reboot and Green Arrow: Year One.
