Donald Trump's tax cut proposal was pretty clear about the cuts he wants for corporations and for the rich, but it was much more vague about what would happen to the taxes of most other Americans. And those other Americans are very suspicious of those tax cuts/
A majority (51%) thinks Trump's tax plan will result in them paying either the same or more in taxes, while only a tiny 20% thinks they would get a cut in their own taxes. They are convinced, however, about the plan benefitting corporations and the rich. They say corporations would pay less by a 31 point margin, and that Trump (and the rich) would pay less by a 19 point margin.
Trump still has a long way to go to sell his tax plan to the general public.
There is something the public does want though. By a significant 15 point margin, they want Trump to publicly release his tax returns. Trump may have thought this issue had gone away, but it hasn't. And as the tax cuts start getting debated in Congress, this will once again become headline news.
These charts were all made from information in a recent Economist / YouGov Poll -- done between April 29th and May 2nd of a random national sample of 1,500 adults (including 1,255 registered voters), with a 3.1 point margin of error.
