Smart meters are a new technology designed to replace old gas and electricity meters. They come with may benefits; including more accurate bills, the ability to monitor energy usage, and allowing energy suppliers to more effectively monitor demand.
The UK government have plans to phase out old analog meters and put a smart meter in every home & business by 2020. Although they are not mandatory, some people feel pressured into having a smart meter fitted and are concerned about their data security.
