The Prabal Gurung Parable

On February 10, 2013, Prabal Gurung invaded Target and like any fashion lover, I rushed to the nearest store with giddy anticipation. The collection spoke to me- bright florals, A-line skirts, and ankle strap shoes. I was going to rock the hell out of this collection and nothing was going to stop me. I arrived at my local store but there were no ankle strap heels in sight but I did find a pair of ankle strap flats in my size so I quickly snatched them up. SCORE!

I made my way to the clothes and was sorely disappointed. There was only a few racks of clothes and slim pickings left.

Where was all the glorious things I had seen in the preview? There were no pleated skirts. No floral print shorts. There wasn’t even jewelry anywhere to be found. Not one to be easily discouraged, I made my way to another Target store twenty minutes away. And then another, and another… All in all, I went to four Target stores and all I had to show for my efforts was a pair of black sandals.

I eventually ordered a drop waist floral dress and a black lace front blouse online. A week went by and my purchases arrived.

Loved the dress but hated the blouse. The pleather trim on the collar was kinda tacky. Ok, beyond tacky. It finally hit me that I wasn’t going to be able to rock much of anything from the collection. Still, all was not lost. This story has a bright side. Kinda. The collection reminded me that spring is almost upon us.
