It is well-known that a certain faction of discontented right-wing individuals in the US, mostly converts and traditional conservatives, cannot stand Pope Francis and his return of the Catholic Church to its original Christian synodality, rather than high-brow monarchy, pomp and circumstance. It is also known that a group of such persons will stop at nothing to recreate the Church into their own perceived image and likeness of what it should be.
Their latest attempt, backed by deep capitalist money, is a proposed ‘Red Hat Report‘ on all the cardinals of the Catholic Church. It should be noted that this attempt is a direct and deliberate violation of Saint John Paul II’s apostolic constitution Universi Dominici Gregis with regard to papal conclave rules in terms of the blanket ban on “any external interference [including] in writing or by word of mouth, either directly and personally or indirectly and through others.” In other words they think they can influence papal elections in a parallel manner to how they influenced that of the US presidency.
These people, this group, publicly proclaim they “love the Catholic Church.”
They have forgotten that the Church is not an American Church and it does not belong to them. The Church is neither a committee nor the US Congress. The papacy is not the American presidency. The Church is the Mystical Body of Christ, it is a universal Church, and no one ‘cleans it up’ (if there is any cleaning to be done) except Christ Himself.
The pride and arrogance manifested above do not originate with the Spirit of God.
