The Order- Jude Law, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Marc Maron
Quick Take: To be fair, I did ask if I could have an accessible screener. This movie has an available audio description track that I have not heard, so I’ll likely be reviewing this again at some point. The film was interesting enough that I would check it out, or recommend it if you can get the audio description track. Jude Law, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Marc Maron, and Jurnee Smollett create a strong ensemble in a film about domestic terrorism. The thing I found the most striking, even without audio description, is how much a film like this feels inherently southern. We’ve seen so many films of this ilk set in the confederate states, with sundown towns, and Jim Crow laws. But, while there is a sense of racist undertones, there’s also very much this homegrown militia, tackling a very similar subject matter as Civil War did. Looking at how we have problems in our own backyard, even in the Pacific Northwest. This is a surprisingly mature and coherent thriller from the guy who got saddled with Assassin’s Creed. Sadly, it feels awards baity, and therefore is getting a little ignored. Had this film understood that fighting at this time of the year put it at a disadvantage, and released a little earlier, it might have had a warmer reception. Look for another review in a few months when it is on a streamer with audio description. right ow, you can rent it on various VOD platforms. For more, check out my review, which I’m so far behind, I actually got an advance screening, and I’m just now writing this after it is already on VOD.
