SHHAN, an NFT artist, earlier instructed people in the community chat to “switch to English,” which was mostly disregarded.
SHHAN, founder of the black cats nonfungible tokens (NFT) collection Mimic Shhans, addressed to fans on Twitter on December 11 why he was restricting Chinese-language contributions on community social pages. The decision was made after users criticized the new policies as discriminatory. According to SHHAN, who resides in South Korea but published a Chinese post to address the issue specifically:
“It is because I previously announced on Twitter and Discord that my team is trying to enter the North American market. Therefore, I recommended everyone to use English when responding to Twitter posts. Why do this? Because when I spoke with North American holders [of our NFTs], they told us comments on the Mimic Twitter page are almost exclusively in Chinese, so it was very hard for them to feel the culture of the Mimic community.”
SHHAN explained that he had previously put a recommendation on the community Discord for users to speak English, but that “the vast majority of people did not appear to follow it.” The artist then reaffirmed that he viewed the European and North American consumer markets as crucial for the forthcoming Shhan Metaverse, called “Shhanverse,” and wanted that people would “turn to the more internationalized English language” while discussing the project.
Mimic Shhans was issued on the Ethereum network in October and features NFTs depicting “playful black cat” in various costumes. SHHAN said that the vast majority of NFT holders are headquartered in China, where the collection is extremely popular. The project presently has 2,001 OpenSea holders, with 285 Ether (ETH) transacted since its creation.
