The Newtown Action Alliance

CSGV Today, dozens of Newtown residents organized by the Newtown Action Alliance—including survivors of the town's mass shooting tragedy—traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend tomorrow's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013. They have come to remind lawmakers why we need a renewed ban on assault weapons. For them, the issue is deeply personal. The shooter who brutally murdered 20 elementary schoolchildren and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary used a Bushmaster XM15 assault rifle.

Along with other gun violence prevention groups, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence is pulling out all the stops for a strong showing at tomorrow’s hearing.  We’ve worked behind the scenes to help bring these Newtown residents to Washington. We briefed them today on the different gun policy reform proposals being considered by the Senate. And we’re accompanying them to meetings with Members of Congress to augment their impact on Capitol Hill. I’m also preparing hard-hitting testimony for the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing linking support for assault weapons to insurrectionist ideology, which I will share with you tomorrow. The Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013—which would take military-style firearms off the civilian market and ban high-capacity ammunition magazines— will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, February 27th at 10:00AM EST and can be viewed live at the  C-SPAN website.
