Iconic flip-phone, the Motorola Razr, is back with a banging fold. Since it is the year of the beginning of foldable phones, Motorola decided to get on the bandwagon by reviving an old classic in a new form-factor.

Motorola Razr design

The new Motorola Razr folds vertically. When the phone is folded, a mini display on the front shows the time and notifications. The noticeable chin houses the fingerprint scanner, along with a USB-C port at the bottom.

As with the classic variant, you can snap the phone shut when hanging up the call. The device becomes half in size and double in thickness when folded.

As with any foldable screen, the hinge is the major point of breakdown. Motorola is claiming that their proprietary design will keep out dust particles and other debris from entering the device via the hinge. They are also promising that the hinge will last the lifetime of the phone itself, without any special treatment.

Motorola Razr specifications

The main screen is 6.2-inch HD with 21:9 aspect ratio and a pixel density of 876×2142. Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset is paired with 6 GB RAM and 128 gigs of internal storage.

The primary camera is a 16 MP shooter. The secondary camera is 5 MP. The battery capacity is 2510 mAh - slightly on the lower side but given the older 710 processor, this just might be enough.

The secondary screen is a 2.7-inch Quick View display with a resolution of 800×600 pixels. It can be used to access Google Assistant, click selfies via the primary camera, and control media playback - all without unfolding the Motorola Razr.

The device runs Android 9. The classic T9 keyboard is replaced with an on-screen software variant.

Pricing and availability

The new Motorola Razr is priced at $1500 (more than a lac in INR). Pre-orders in the US begin next month, with shipping starting in January 2020.

Since a country-specific registration link is deployed, we might see the device sooner in India as well. Official India pricing is not known yet.
