Story: The Mutation starts when a human sized mutated rat escapes its captivity under Dr Linda Rowe (Tyler), leading to it going on a rampage through the city. Zoologist Allen Marsh (Freitas) and his assistant Julie (Thompson) are called in by the police to help figure out what the caused the attacks.
As the attacks continue to grow, Allen must use his knowledge on helping figure out how to stop the monstrous rat before it kills more, while Allen pushes the limits of his involvement in the case by getting close to the widow of the first victim.
Thoughts on The Mutation
Thoughts – The Mutation is a creature feature styled horror that will get the build around most of the attacks, investigation and back story behind the creature done well, the deeper story around what is happening, is the highlight of the film. Where this film isn’t as strong as it could be, comes from seeing the rat attacks, which show the low budget side of this film, not trying to cover anything up, making the scenes feel more chaotic, than unique. The performances in the film do show the budget levels, while nobody is bad, there isn’t a performance that could make anyone become a bigger name in the horror community. This is a film that does give the low budget idea of horror the idea that we could have an interesting idea that could bring bigger factors for a clever story.
Final Thoughts – The Mutation is everything we would expect from a low budget creature feature.
