The Microsoft Surface Duo is possibly one of Microsoft's most unusual experiments. It's a dual screen Android phone. And I have one. But right now I'm just looking in the box.
A full review of the duo is coming in a couple of weeks, but in the meantime I've opened it up to see what's inside. I looked at a clear version of the duo to take a look at their circuitry a few weeks ago, but didn't have the boxing device available in retail stores. We don't yet know the international price of the duo, but their price of $ 1,399 is roughly equivalent to £ 1,070 or AU $ 1,960.
The Duo comes with a USB-C charger and a strange rubber bumper that attaches to the Duo for protection. Microsoft claims the Gorilla Glass Covered Duo is sturdy, but I have no idea how well it will withstand a drop. The bumper is a sign that you might want to handle it carefully.
One thing the duo doesn't have is a pen. The Duo is Microsoft Pen Compatible, but Microsoft does not include a pen. I would have preferred one to a USB-C charger.
Since I have a duo and the transparent special model, I thought I would compare it.
Sure enough, they feel the same. The hinge is extremely smooth and sturdy at most angles, and the sleek, book-like design is even better in person ... at least for holding.
Will the duo live up to their promise to be a dual screen productivity saver for phones? I can not say it yet. But I'll let you know asap.
