Disney Plus was launched just under a year ago. However, for its over 60 million subscribers, it didn't have much to do with large original series. The only original series that has become a real mainstream hit is The Mandalorian. The first season of the science fiction series, set in the Star Wars universe, was a huge success. That was thanks to some great performances, some dark and dark storylines and of course the surprise character The Child, also known as "Baby Yoda".

What we definitely know about Mandalorian Season 2
Even before the first season fell on Disney Plus in November 2019, plans for the second season of The Mandalorian were underway. Pedro Pascal returns (mostly) as a helmet-covered bounty hunter named Din Djarin. The child will continue to be by Mando's side. Hopefully in Season 2 we will learn more about the kid and why everyone in the Star Wars universe wants them. Disney has confirmed that the second season episodes will enter service on October 30, 2020. There will be eight episodes, and one will fall on the ministry each week.
Also confirmed as part of the second season was Gina Carano, who will again play against the tough former rebellious soldier Cara Dune. The head of the Mando Bounty Hunters League, Greef Karga, is also back, again being played by Carl Weathers. We'll also see the return of Imperial Governor Moff Gideon, played by Giancarlo Esposito, who appeared in the last two episodes to capture the child.
Officially, Disney and LucasArts keep the story under wraps. Based on the few trailers and clips published, we have Mando and The Child on a ship and also take part in an event in a kind of fighting ring. We also see Mando's ship being attacked by what appears to be X-Wings, and we see some battles with Imperial speeders. Mando seems to be on a journey to bring the child back to "his own kind", but what that really means is not yet known. There is evidence that the Jedi will have some sort of appearance too.
If you've watched the first season finale of The Mandalorian, you've seen Moff Gideon cut himself out of his ruined TIE fighter. He used a different type of lightsaber that exuded a black blade with a white border. Gideon used the Darksaber, which first appeared on the animated show The Clone Wars, as a weapon that was highly valued by the Mandalorian people. But why does Moff Gideon have it if he's not a Mandalorian? Hopefully this will be explained in Season 2.
Interviews with the cast and creator of the Mandalorian Jon Favreau on Weekly entertainment suggest that we will see an expansion of the Star Wars universe in season two, possibly forking into storylines that do not include the show's title character.
Favreau will also be directing at least one of the eight episodes as well as his teammate and production partner Dave Filoni. Additional episodes will be staged by returning directors Bryce Dallas Howard and Rick Famuyiwa as well as new directors Robert Rodriguez (Sin City), Peyton Reed (Ant-Man) and Mandalorian actor Carl Weathers.
Rumors of the Mandalorian Season 2
Ahsoka is coming to live action?
While most of the storyline for Season 2 is still a mystery, there are plenty of unconfirmed rumors. diversity has reported that Rosario Dawson has been cast in the role of Ahsoka Tano. Ahsoka was and is one of the greatest characters in the animated series The Clone Wars. Anakin Skywalker's former padawan apprentice can also be seen in the Star Wars: Rebels animated series. This is the character's first appearance on a Star Wars live action project. It is probably no coincidence that Dave Filoni, the main director of The Clone Wars and creator of Rebels, is also executive producer, director, and writer of The Mandalorian.
Rosario Dawson may see the role, but her voice will likely not match the Ahsoka Tano we know in the animated series. Ahsoka has been voiced by Ashley Eckstein since the character's debut in the animated film The Clone Wars in 2007. Will Dawson speak to Ahsoka to the best of his ability? Will Eckstein Ahsoka talk about Dawson's live-action role à la Sam Witwer and Ray Park as Maul in Solo: A Star Wars Story 2018? Unfortunately nothing has been confirmed yet.
Another rumor about the show related to The Clone Wars revolves around actress Katee Sackhoff. Best known for her work as Starbuck on the Battlestar Galactica Reboot TV series, Deadline reports that Sackhoff will appear on The Mandalorian season 2. It is rumored that she will play the live-action version of another Mandalorian warrior, Bo-Katan. Sackhoff voiced this role when the character debuted on season four of The Clone Wars.
Will Boba Fett appear on the series? Who will portray him?
Many Hollywood industry reports claim that Boba Fett, the bounty hunter from the original Star Wars film trilogy who wore armor similar to The Mandalorian, will somehow appear in Season 2. The Hollywood Reporter claims Temuera Morrison, who played Boba's father Jango Fett in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, will take on Boba Fett on the show. Morrison has voiced Boba Fett in the recently revised versions of the original Star Wars trilogy. It would be great to see and hear him as part of the Disney Plus Star Wars show family.
However, there can be a twist in this story. There are other reports that actor Timothy Olyphant has also joined the second season. There's still no word on what character he could play. However, SlashFilm claims Olyphant was seen wearing the Boba Fett armor while filming. It's likely that Olyphant plays a character named Cobb Vanth, who found the armor on Tatooine after the events of the Return of the Jedi and decided to keep it. That should make for an interesting episode.
Super crazy rumor time
This rumor has been around for a while, but so far there has been no comment from Disney and LucasArts at all. If you really don't want to know anymore Stop reading now.
Grace Randolph, who runs a YouTube television and movie channel called Beyond The Trailer, claimed Pedro Pascal was frustrated with having to wear his helmet all the time, according to her sources, and asked to allow some time on-screen with the Mando helmet turned off to have. Apparently that was rejected by Lucasfilm. It went so far that, according to her report, Pascal left the show in the middle of the second season.
Randolph added that it is possible that cooler minds could prevail later and that Pascal may have returned later. He did press interviews for the second season of The Mandalorian so we'll have to wait and see if that rumor is true.
Another rumor that was circulating is that there will be a big surprise at the end of the first episode of The Mandalorian Season 2. This is supposed to be at the level of The Child reveal at the end of Episode 1 of Season 1.
The Mandalorian Season 3?
Although the second season of The Mandalorian has not yet debuted, diversity reports that writing and preproduction began in season 3. It seems Disney is satisfied enough with the success of the first season and the finished footage of the second season to approve a third season of the series. Provided the show is not affected by COVID-19 delays, production could start in late 2020 or early 2021 and be released in late 2021.
