Almost all my
posts are my own thoughts ….there are some which get influenced by the
newspaper articles and this one … totally influenced (almost reproduction of
article in The Hindu – Tamil edition)
Even regular
cinema buff may not remember this 1992 released film ‘Agni Paarvai’ or its hero
– the heroine was Saranya ….and in the election melee, there are symbols and
free symbols … do you know or remember that there was a time in TN when a
majority party (split at that instance) contested election on ‘cock’ and ‘two
doves’ symbols…..
In mid 2002,
there was a Cabinet reshuffle – 13 news faces were brought in in what was
called a big expansion of council of ministers.
A total of four new cabinet ministers were sworn in: Jana
K. Krishnamoorty, Shatrughan Sinha, Sahib Singh Verma from BJP and
Balasaheb Vikhe Patil of Shiv Sena
who was upgraded to the cabinet
rank from a minister of state. Twelve portfolios were also changed, the biggest
being the swap between Jaswant Singh and Yashwant Sinha. Singh became the new
Finance Minister and Sinha moved to the Ministry of External Affairs ~ and this
man too had his chance then…
It is
all about ‘S Thirunavukkarasu’ [subburaman
Thirunavukkarasar], the former Union Minister,
a native of Aranthangi, has been
fielded in the Ramanathapuram constituency as Congress candidate in which he
joined in 2009.
His
rise was meteoric – way back in MGR Government in 1977-1980, he was the Deputy
Speaker of the TN Legislative Assembly; was the State Minister from 1980-87…..
he was once elected to Rajya Sabha from
Madhya Pradesh when in BJP and resigned after joining Congress. Here
are some excerpts from an interesting article read in The Hindu – Tamil
– Chennai edition. the many symbols
It credits
dubious distinction to the Congress nominee from Ramanathapuram Su
Thirunavukkarasar, who has been in active politics since 1977 debuting in
AIADMK in ‘twin leaves’ symbol. He
contested in the same symbol in 1980 & 1984 and won too. when the party split after the death of
MGR, in 1989 he contested in ‘Cock’ seval representing ADMK (J). In 1991, he started his ‘Anna Puratchi
Thalaivar MGR Makkal munnetra kazhagam’ and contested in ‘Umbrella’ symbol and
won too. 1996 saw him contesting in
‘twin leaves’ representing AIADMK ~ in 1998, he floated MGR ADMK aligned with
Congress – contested from Pudukkottai
constituency in ‘mangoe’ symbol but lost.
In 1999 in the same Pudukkottai, he was in DMK-BJP alliance contesting
on ‘Ring’ symbol’.
Later he was to
merge with BJP, was a Central Minister too, contested Ramanathapuram in 2009 in
BJP’s ‘Lotus’…….. in the 2011 Assembly elections, he stood in Aranthangi, this
time in Congress ticket in ‘Hand’ symbol…. Thus…… the
report says he has contested using : ‘7 symbols’ – perhaps outnumbering other
rivals on this count !!!!
