The Lost Caravan- too nascent or really lost?
With such a hue and cry about this new opening in town, I had to see it for myself what the hype was all about and after a series of pleadings, the Mister and I headed out some 30 km away to The Lost Caravan, a travel themed restaurant for nomads and gourmands.
At first sight, it is difficult to not fall in love with its jazzy retro interiors. The artefacts, the pop posters, the clocks and for a selfie freak- the mirrors. Naturally, we expected the food to be equally great but hey, not all that glitters is gold.
I ordered the Enchiladas and the best thing about it was the white sauce and corn tortillas instead of flour ones used everywhere else. I wasn't disappointed with it apart from the usage of spinach in its filling but that's just my personal dislike there wasn't anything wrong with the dish. We also went for a Mojito jar and looking at its price and description, we really were expecting a jar and I wish they had mentioned that by jar they meant a mason jar so the size definitely was a major disappointment.
Rajib however made the wrong choice and ordered the Baseball Cut. We did not like the cut of our beef fillet, it was a mix of medium rare in some parts and well done in others so we weren't really sure how to feel about it. The mashed potatoes served with it kind of tasted stale and my guess is it was made of potato flour and not real potatoes which does make a ton of difference.
Being a Churro lover, I was elated to spot it on the menu but unfortunately, I may have had some real good churros at other places and my expectations were high and The Lost Caravan did not meet it. The worst part was the dark chocolate dip which tasted like Hershey's mixed with water, a terrible mix indeed.
Overall, I do not want to judge the place based on one visit although I am not sure if there is going to be a second visit but I still want to give this place a chance and here's hoping that they pick up gradually and improve their slow and casual service. It would be sad to see such a beautiful place not live upto the expectations.
