There are many versions available of the phrase "in the loop." The opposite form (antonym) is "out of the loop" which is opposite in meaning also.

Origin

The phrase in the loop means that a certain group of people deal with important decisions or have specific knowledge of something. If you are in the loop, then you are one of this group and are party to the particular knowledge that the group members have. A loop being something that goes around in a full circle.

On the other hand, out of the loop means that you are not one of the groups who have important information or make the decisions. You are outside of the group.
