The Long Day Closes

The Long Day Closes A lonely boy lives with his mother in their stark, sterile flat, deals with the bullies and instructors at his strict Catholic school, and finds his only solace in the local movie theater. Terence Davies' semi-autobiographical film is a narrative-less elegy, a melancholy remembrance of a lonely childhood in 1950s Liverpool, told on beautifully filmed sets that are revealed in what resembles the disarray of memory.
