An innovative face base to combat Hong Kong humidity? Sold. Before BB creams were a thing in the UK, they were a huge thing in South Korea. They continue to be a huge thing in South Korea. If you’ve been living under a rock, BB creams are an all-in-one skincare and makeup hybrid, offering blendable light to medium coverage and scar-healing properties with incomparable SPF and other skin enhancing bits. They don’t really fit in the tinted foundation category but that’s where they often sit for ease of explanation, right?
Something that I’ve been itching to try since its launch is Laneige’s BB Cushion Compact. Revolutionising the BB cream, this compact nestles the product with a cushion, offering better coverage and easier application in light 'veiled' layers and has sold over 50 million units worldwide. How many?! I was intrigued about this from the get-go, only because I’d opted for eyelash extensions back in May, I haven’t worn makeup in months.
Until now.
This BB cushion compact is whitening and moisturising – although there is an oil control formula available too – and is enhanced with SPF50/PA+++, making it ideal for everyday use. A whopping six-in-one product, it promises to brighten, resist water and humidity, offer natural coverage, defend from UVB/UVA, moisturise and apply easily.
I reach for this two or three times a week, I'd say. To use it, I press a small veil on my cheeks and sometimes a little around my mouth to even out hyperpigmentation. The coverage is fair – pretty good but I don’t have any spots or scarring – and it genuinely does lasts all day, even in sweaty weather.
Colour match wise, there is a fairly small range of colours. I take the lightest color (True Beige) and I’m a pale olive complexion, but overall they’re very much targeted at Asian skintones, offering light olive and pink toned shades.
