Despite the hype and the fact I have adored every Patrick Ness novel I've ever read, I wasn't entirely sure I was going to like this book. The book uses quite unusual stylistic prose (call it futuristic country bumpkin) that grated at first and took ages to get used to. The book does use different text styles as well at times which didn't always work. Still, this is a great book. Terrible things happen. Amazing things happen. My gut got kicked and my heart got punched a lot. I cried like a little bitch a bunch of times. Todd is a great narrator. You get inside his head from the first sentence and get pulled right into the story. I didn't realise for ages that Manchee was the dog and when I did I was a tad creeped out. Bring on more of this!
