The Kitchen District, Hyatt Regency, Gurgaon: Surprisingly Affordable

The Kitchen District, Hyatt Regency, Gurgaon: Surprisingly Affordable
How can a hotel that is not so centrally located get the patrons to travel to them for food? Simple... good food, generous portion and price that pleasantly surprise. That's exactly seems to be the motto of The Kitchen district at Hyatt Manesar. The Kitchen District is a multi-cuisine casual restaurant with five kitchens specializing in Western, Asian, Indian, Salad bar and Desserts. Even though they have a dinner buffet at a surprisingly low price of Rs1500 every Friday to Sunday, I choose to go ala-carte.

I order Rusty Nail from the adjoining 'Long Bar', a well balance cocktail using Black Label whiskey and Drumbui. However the star of the drink is the big ice in a spherical shape that slowly melts and hence do not over dilute the drink. Sanjay Patti, director of F&B, goes out of his way to demonstrate the Japanese machine seeing my inquisitiveness which was much appreciated.

The food starts coming that I carefully selected to represent all their Kitchens. Octopus Carpaccio is cooked on a slow fire ensuring the tough and chewy octopus gets a beautiful soft character and it is served with cubed potato in an olive tapenade dressing. The pork belly yakitori is simply irresistible with its melt-in-the mouth character.

By the time we eat zucchini fritters, they have become cold but still retains its crunchiness. Mashed potatoes are soft and creamy without the use of cream, a sign of good mashed potatoes. The addition of fried onion gives it a new dimension while the quantity is enough to make a meal of this side dish.
I was not too happy with the pasta that came a tad dry on the first go. It was immediately replaced however it still failed to meet the expectation. A Chaap Tazaar is the one that falls off the bone yet retains a bite. This one had lost the bite, perhaps it was over marinated and over cooked.

Desserts are nice and should be tried especially the Tiramisu. Given that pub is just next door to this restaurant, would have liked a smoking room nearby, in absence of which people can get their dose of fresh breath outside the hotel lobby, which is some distance.
The Kitchen District has a great value proposition with its pricing and overall experience and a visit or two during weekends or when you are in a mood of enjoying the drive is recommended.
