I’ve visited the Kingswood Arms many times over the years, it’s one of my favorite pubs, and decided to revisit it today for lunch with my wife and mother. I was driving, so only half a pint of Aspall cyder for me, and a pint for Mrs.R junior. Mrs.R senior settled for a coffee. There were 5 ales on tap, and a large selection of industrial beers. I didn’t take much notice of the bottled beer situation, so I can’t comment on what was available.
Once we’d sat down with our drinks we perused the menu and then ordered food. I had pan-fried duck on glazed ginger pineapple, pimento and red onion, served with jasmine rice. My lovely wife had smoked haddock with spring onion mash, wilted spinach, poached egg, and hollandaise sauce. My mother had pan-fried salmon with English asparagus, sauteed Jersey Royals, and a dill and butter sauce. The food was excellent.
This is a very popular pub, it opens at 12noon and is almost full by 12.30pm. On a Sunday people even start queueing at the door from 11.45am. There is a car park, but it is small, but there is on-street parking as well. In the Summer there is a large beer garden in which to enjoy a nice cold pint.
An excellent pub, with excellent food, and a good range of beer. 9/10.
