The John Milroy Selection Mystery Whisky Box TastingMystery.
Whisky.
Box.

Yes, you read that correctly. Mystery Whisky Box. Here's what this "mystery" thing is all about...

In late May of this year, The Whisky Sisters, aka Lauren Mayer and Gabby Shayne of Spirit Imports, were kind enough to send us nine samples of The John Milroy Selection's latest Single Cask, Cask Strength, Single Malt Scotch Whisky expressions. Below is the list of expressions that they sent:

  • BUNNAHABHAIN 1987, 31 YO, 54.5% ABV
  • CAOL ILA 2007, 11 YO, 54.7% ABV
  • BENRINNES 2006, 12 YO, 54.9% ABV
  • GLEN GRANT 1995, 23 YO, 49.0% ABV
  • SPEYBURN 2008, 10 YO, 54.4% ABV
  • ARDMORE 2010, 8 YO, 54.8% ABV
  • BLAIR ATHOL 1998, 20 YO, 45.4% ABV
  • SINGLE ORKNEY 2008, 10 YO, 56.6% ABV
  • GLEN KEITH 1993, 25 YO, 54.3% ABV

Now we don't know about you, but we've found that trying to review nine whiskies in one sitting is a bit of a daunting (and intoxicating!) task, so instead of doing that, we decided to make a game out of it, hence the whole "Mystery Whisky Box" thing.

A couple of weeks before we sat down to do the tasting, I wrapped the bottles with strips of paper in order to hide the distillery names. The plan was to pick two whiskies each, talk about them for a minute or two, and then guess which distillery made what we were drinking. We mostly stuck to the plan, but as you can tell from the run time of this video, we ran a wee bit longer than expected. We also wound up reviewing three whiskies each instead of the aforementioned two.
