The iPhone 14 Pro Max A Quick Tech Review

Posted on the 31 January 2023 by Shoumya Chowdhury

Last year, there were more than 1.2 billion iPhone users in the world, and over 2.2 billion iPhone units were sold.

It’s no secret that Apple smartphones are one of the top choices for consumers. Yet, it seems as if they have a new version popping out every year.

Is it worth it to get the latest iPhone? Keep reading to learn more in this iPhone 14 Pro Max review.

Design

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is designed much like newer iPhone models. In fact, the 14 looks very similar to the 13 Pro Max, released just the year before.

Apple has stuck with the same general design language throughout the last few years. As they say, if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it!

While the iPhone 14 Pro Max is no visual breakthrough, the tried and true design is sleek, beautiful, and overall aesthetically pleasing.

The stainless steel frame gives off a sense of luxury, while the frosted glass back looks great and feels incredible. Most smartphones these days have a great finish, but the iPhone 14 Pro Max is a step above the rest.

Although similar to past models, there is one characteristic unique to this newer smartphone. Its size is larger than the rest, making it one of the most substantial smartphones on the market.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is taller and heavier, which might intimidate those that like smaller phones. If you transition to the larger version, it won’t be as hard as you think to maneuver.

On the exterior, Apple is trying out new, darker colors on the pro version of this smartphone. You can buy the iPhone 14 in midnight, starlight, red, blue, and purple!

Screen

Because the iPhone 14 Pro Max is so large in size, users benefit from the expansive 6.7-inch display. The screen quality is excellent, with beautiful and vivid colors. Text is easier to read because the screen is brighter than ever.

Typically, max brightness is around 1000 nits. With the iPhone 14 Pro Max, you get 2000 nits of brightness in direct sunlight where more light is demanded.

Even on particularly sunny days, you won’t have a problem looking at your screen while outdoors.

Since the screen is more high-end, you will have to pay more for repairs if you shatter it. You can find affordable repair options at fruitfixed.com.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is one of the first Apple phones with an always-on screen.

This means that you can press the power button to turn off your iPhone’s display, but it will show a dimmed version of your lock screen, widgets, notifications, wallpaper, etc.

Always-on screens aren’t ideal for everyone, but Apple’s implementation might surprise you. It won’t be particularly useful for some users, especially if you already own an Apple Watch, but it is a cool new feature.

Dynamic Island

Dynamic Island is a newer feature from Apple that replaces Apple’s notch with a solid black bar at the top of the screen. This feature can do a variety of different things.

If you are listening to a song, you can swipe up into Dynamic Island and watch your music app follow. The feature will then show album artwork from the song that is playing and a color-matching waveform.

If you start a timer on the clock app, Dynamic Island will display the live countdown so that you can watch it without switching back and forth from the app.

This feature will also show call controls, incoming calls, device charging alerts, Apple Maps directions, connection pop-ups, AirPods, and Face ID prompts, among other things.

These notifications have always existed with iPhone, but the new features provide them with a cohesive and easily visible place to stay.

Since the feature is still new, it doesn’t work with every app. As technology progresses, we can expect Dynamic Island to do more in the future as Apple continues to manufacture iconic smartphones.

Cameras

A lot of users love iPhones because of the camera quality on each device. Just when you think Apple can’t improve the camera game any further, they do with the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

This smartphone features a brand-new camera that no other Apple product utilizes. The 48MP main camera has optical image stabilization and an f/1.78 aperture. This camera can even be used as an optical 2x zoom lens.

The main camera is accompanied by a 12MP telephoto camera with 3x zoom and another 12MP ultrawide camera that has a 120-degree field of view.

Another new camera feature on this smartphone is the selfie front-facing camera that has autofocus.

There is a lot going on when it comes to iPhone camera hardware, but Apple has updated the software for this smartphone as well.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max uses the new Photonic Engine image pipeline to provide the user with detailed textures and lifelike colors, all without needing a large amount of light.

iOS 16

The iPhone 14 Pro Max comes out of the box running iOS 16. This is the latest iOS version from Apple that is similar to iOS 15 but offers a few notable changes.

The biggest change is the lock screen. Users now have the ability to edit the lock screen in different ways.

Gone are the days when you could only change the lock screen image. Now, you can add widgets, change the font, and even create multiple lock screens to switch around as often as you’d like.

The Weather app also comes with major updates as users can now receive additional statistics and much more forecasted information than before.
