The Invisible Raptor- Did This Indie Horror Comedy Spare No Expense?
Quick Take: I do wish this one had audio description. It is a horror comedy that really is paying heavy tribute to Jurassic Park. I’ve since been made aware of some visual cues that lean even more into this idea. But, yes, it is a movie about an invisible raptor. it is silly. It features absolutely nonsensical moments. It feels schlocky at times, but also spot on. I look at this, and then films like Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey and The Mouse Trap, and I think of how this didn’t rush to parody Jurassic Park. The idea struck someone, they roped in a lot of references, and had some fun with it. If you want to make a Steambot Willie horror movie, inherently, it is a stupid idea. So, you have to figure out how to make that work. The goal should never be to be the first, but to be the best. And, when I think of films that dip their toes into a parody of Jurassic Park, I think of how we got some awful dinosaur movies in the 90’s. Theodore Rex? Remember that? Years later, in a what if scenario, the words “invisible raptor” are uttered, and it can marinate without feeling like it has to be first. It isn’t a great movie, and it isn’t a classic. I wish it had audio description, but I appreciate this movie on at least a basic level. As with most horror films though, it really is mostly pointless if you can’t see, and there’s no accessibility. You probably came to see the gore, and in terms of accessibility, this Jurassic Park adjacent title spared expenses. For more, check out my video.
