The Intercontinental Hong Kong – A Hotel to Indulge

By Travellingtheworld

I stayed one night late November at the Intercontinental Hong Kong.

The Location

The Intercontinental Hong Kong is located on a prime location — just overseeing the Victoria Harbour.

We are IHG Platinum members, so we get a bigger room, late check out and two free drinks.

I had arrived early, around 11 am but the hotel allowed me to check in earlier which really helped me. I had arrived in Hong Kong after a long flight so the feeling to have a room as soon as possible was great.

We had a hotel staff member take us to the room in the fourth floor and explain all the facilities.

The Room & the Facilities

The room was separated into two parts — the first section was the office table and then a long wooden countertop with shelves. There were various magazines. The second part was the bedroom-bathroom section.

The room had a safe, and a fully stocked refrigerator. The bathroom was stocked with sufficient toiletries. I stayed just one night, so did not get a chance to check out its cleaning operations.

The room had a charger plus a multi-port USB charger which greatly helps the modern traveler.

The best facility, in my opinion, was the free phone. It is an Alcatel smartphone and calls to a number of countries including the USA, Canada and Japan were free. Plus it came with a 3G package with the facility to tether. It allowed me to use my own phone to connect to the Internet during my stay.

A copy of the International Wall Street Journal was delivered to the room.

My only challenge was the TV, which gave me grief as I tried to check out the various channels.

There is an outdoor pool but unfortunately, it was too cold the day I arrived.

I got a nicely wrapped small box of two chocolates as a parting gift. A nice, personal touch.

Final Comments

The Intercontinental Hong Kong is a great hotel. It is an expensive one, but its facilities are great.

Even though it is not advertised, the Airport Shuttle K4 from Kowloon Station stops just across the road. To the right of the hotel is the MTR entrance which will take to the K exit (Sheraton exit) of the Tsim Sha Tsui station.
