The Inspirational Story of Ringo

One lucky pooch’s story of an abandoned dog to a beloved pet is tugging at the Internet’s heart this week.

On Tuesday, Redditor flibbertigibbet revealed her dog Ringo’s story in a moving sequence of Imgur photographs. “I’ve been watching some pics today and understood how much Ringo has really improved in the 8 months I’ve had him. Chose to share, because it’s such very inspiring story,” she wrote on Reddit. The photos then become viral.

The Redditor, who told the HuffPost that she only wanted to be known by her first name Crystal, said she first met Ringo at the end of September. Pinched and suffering from a bad eye, Ringo was “so afraid he wouldn’t stare at me,” Crystal wrote on Imgur.

The 30-year-old carried Ringo back to her West Texas home and intended to rehabilitate him before getting him another family. What she didn’t expect, however, was that Ringo would soon touch her heart.

Two weeks after Crystal fetched him home, she said Ringo ‘smiled’ for the first time.

“I will never forget this moment. I stand there with the delight in my hand, willing him to face his qualms and look in my broad direction, and he sees to me with this goofy grin on his face. That did it, I was in love,” she wrote in a description that accompanied this endearing snap.

Over the subsequent few months, Ringo acquired both weight and confidence. He also learned to mingle with humans and other animals.

It wasn’t all smooth-sailing, though. Ringo’s bad eye giving him trouble so surgery was planned.

“His eye was getting bad and he didn’t feel sound a lot of the time. We planned to have it eradicated and decided that we advance just go ahead and keep him forever,” wrote Crystal in the Imgur gallery.

Improvement was difficult, Crystal says, as Ringo aches from a blood clotting disorder, which caused a “massive amount of distention.” But soon enough, he’d become much better.

Ringo’s story has widened like wildfire on Reddit.

“A half blind socially fretful adult dog with health problems? Several, if not most, people would have just put him down. You’re one of the upright ones,” one Redditor wrote in answer to Crystal’s post.

But the animal lover, who has extra pets at home counting  five cats, claims that she’s done nothing exceptional. It’s Ringo who’s special, she says.

“I’ was moved by the response he’s gotten. He completely deserves it, but it’s very odd to have people yelling me a saint. I promise you, I’m no saint, I just truly love my dogs,” she expressed the HuffPost in an email.
