The ‘Il’yin-Chernigov’ Theotokos

Beauty will save the world”
We have recently been given this limited edition, beautiful icon print of the “Il’yin-Chernigov” Mother of God, that was released in Russia in 1905. The inscription states: Representation of the wonderworking icon of the Mother of God “Ilinskaya-Chernigovskaya.” We have now bought a great frame to preserve it and this post will be updated after the icon print has been placed in the frame and blessed.
We are delighted to have this icon print of the Il’yin Chernigov Theotokos in our custody, because although it is quite worn as shown in the photograph, the original icon is wonderworking. Tears reportedly streamed from the Il’yin Chernigov icon for eight consecutive days in 1662, when the Tatars descended upon Chernigov and destroyed the town. However, during the attack, an “invisible force” protected the Theotokos icon and it survived unscathed.
