The clocks have gone forward and spring, or at least April showers (snow/hail) are here, Creme eggs have been in the shops for ages, but only now are we coming up to Easter.
We got our hands on some of this year’s easter eggs to try them…
First up, Rocky Road to Caramel – Extra Thick Egg from Hotel Chocolat -£27. It’s an indulgent Hotel Chocolat egg, so it is expensive, but you get what you pay for as the egg is one of the thickest around and not only is it thick but one half is textured with puffed rice for a more interesting crunchy egg.

It looks a bit like a hedgehog in our opinion! Each half also has 6 different chocolates inside.

Cute rabbit and owl-shaped chocs, along with florentines and other more “adult” choices! The Hotel Chocolat egg is alcohol-free, contains nuts and gluten but is suitable for vegetarians.
At the cheaper end of the scale, and for a more “normal” egg is Cadbury’s Dairy Milk Giant Easter Egg – £6. As well as the egg you also get three bars of Dairy Milk. I’m sure we don’t need to describe what this one tastes like! It’s available from Tesco and is vegetarian-friendly but may contains nuts and wheat.
Milk Chocolate Indulgence Easter Egg from Thorntons – £15. As you’d expect from Thornton’s, creamy milk chocolate with white & dark chocolate swirls. The little chocolate squares come in a variety of flavours – dark honeycomb, milk fudge, white raspberry, milk toffee and dark orange, which are all lovely but the egg shell isn’t any thicker than the Dairy Milk. This egg also contains no alcohol and is suitable for vegetarians but may contain nuts.
Lidl:- Chocolate Lamb £1.99 Marzipan eggs £1.79 We haven’t cracked these open yet as the lamb is far too pretty. Fred had a good sniff about, so the butter must be high – he loves buttery things.
Aldi: White/Dark/Milk 79p The milk chocolate tasted excellent for the price. A thick shell which needed a good thump to crack. Mr Foodie has yet to try the dark chocolate and Mrs Foodie isnt’t a big fan of the dark stuff.
