We follow a young Coriolanus Snow during the 10th Hunger Games when he has to mentor the female District 12 tribute, Lucy Gray Baird who he develops feelings for and risks everything.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Heading back to the build up towards the 10th Hunger Games, we get to see how that first decade of the games and the tension that is in the Capitol. Coriolanus Snow is attempting to get his family back to a bigger role within society and they are on hard times. He feels as though he deserves the scholarship and this will restore his family’s prosperity which was badly damaged after his fathers death.

It was not going to be as straightforward as previous years when the twenty four academy students are set to be mentors for the tributes. It was never going to be an easy task for Coriolanus, when he is then assigned district 12’s female tribute Lucy Gray. She is instantly noticed at the reaping ceremony and engaged the capitol viewers with her antics and singing.

His desire to win at all costs would be pushed to the limits when he develops feelings for Lucy Gray and with this he could actually see his dream of restoring his family shattered. This is where we see some fantastic character development and build up to the man we knew as President Snow in Katniss’ world. The ruthless nature constantly comes back and he will indeed not allow friendships or love to interfere with what he wants the most.

I will admit that I wasn’t sure about this one, so missed it on the cinema release and in hindsight wish I had actually given it a chance. It is actually a rather good film and story to give more insight into the President we had known. Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler are both very good in the leading role and have enough chemistry together to keep viewers interested.

We get plenty of little links to Katniss and the future which I guess is quite nice to tie things together. Also, watching this film caused me to rewatch all of The Hunger Games franchise.
