Verdict: What the Hell Happened?
Story: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 starts Katniss (Lawrence) giving us a very quick update of how the last film finished, she is in a hospital now recovering from the last games. Katniss along with fellow survivors of the game Beetee (Wright( and Finnick (Claflin) are taken to the forgotten District 13 where President Alma Coin (Moore) and her second in command Plutarch Heavensbee (Hoffman) are trying to use Katniss in the revolution against President Snow (Sutherland). As she always has been Katniss is the reluctant heroine and along with her boyfriend Gale (Hemsworth) looks for proof of the changes happening.
District 12 Katniss’ home has been completely destroyed with the remains left there as an example to the power President Snow has. Peeta (Hutcherson) now part of the President Snow fight against the rebellion turns out to still be alive and calls for peace between the Districts. After Katniss agree to lead the revolution she makes very strong demands to have the captured tributes released and along with Effie Trinket (Banks) and Haymitch (Harrelson) who help Katniss in preparing herself to be the leader.
After well over an hour of talking and filming Katniss getting prepared for the revolution we literally just end up watching a massive game of chess between all the different Districts as they try to get into the winning position against each side in the war.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is nothing more than a giant game of chess and I am not kidding by saying all we see is two sides of a battle putting their pieces in the best place to win only for us to not see anything happen. The hate for this isn’t helped because we have other films out there doing the same thing, making a whole film that is nothing but builder at least Amazing Spiderman had a fight scene, this is easily one of the most disappointing films you will ever see especially after liking the first two Hunger Games. I am going to stop before this turns into too much of a rant. (2/10)
Actor Review
Jennifer Lawrence: Katniss Everdeen the reluctant heroine that has become the symbol of the revolution and through this film we watch how she is being prepared for more public appearances and that is all she does in the film. Jennifer has an Oscar to her name, but I guess she needs to make silly money and this gives her the chance. (2/10)
Josh Hutcherson: Peeta Mellark captured by the Capitol and used as a pawn against Katniss and her revolution. Josh literally records all his scenes here so doesn’t get a chance to do any real acting. (2/10)
Liam Hemsworth: Gale Hawthorne the hunky boyfriend of Katniss who saved her family and always stood by her side when it comes to the revolution, he will go into battle to keep her happy. Liam continues to get stuck in the friendship zone here and is the only character that seems interesting in this film. (5/10)
Support Cast: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 has an amazing supporting cast that includes Donald Sutherland, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Woody Harrelson to mention a few and somehow they don’t get a chance to show all the potential they all have.
Director Review: Francis Lawrence – Francis gives us the annoying builder film and the only way he can now redeem himself is to make the last one great. (3/10)
Adventure: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 loses all what the first two film gave this franchise will one of the dullest adventure films ever made. (1/10)
Sci-Fi: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 does show how desperate people can become in a future conflict. (7/10)
Settings: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 uses basic war settings and no Hunger Game fields. (3/10)
Suggestion: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is a film I am really struggle to suggest even trying, I am going so far as saying watch together with the final part. (Wait for the final part and watch as one)
Best Part: I can honestly say there isn’t a good thing in this film.
