The Holidays and Our Political Climate

By Lisaorchard @lisaorchard1

Hello everyone, I hope all is well with you. I’ve had a busy week of working and writing. We spent the weekend up north to unwind, and we got a hike in. I love that dusty, musty smell of the woods. I’m noodling a new story idea. It’s brewing in the back of my mind while I edit the story I’ve already written. A writer’s work is never done.
But enough about that. Today, I want to talk about the holidays coming up. It’s a stressful time of year with family get togethers, shopping, and cooking. This year the political climate may create some tension-filled meals. It could even cause some major rifts.

Don’t let it. There’s nothing more important than family. It’s important for our younger generations to learn how to stay connected to their cousins and other family members.
They will be the ones to carry on traditions. Right now, it feels like family traditions are going by the wayside. This isn’t a good trend. We need families and communities to stick together and honor each other.

I believe that’s where we’re going to change this divisive political environment. By taking care of our families and communities. We start there. Because it doesn’t matter which side of the aisle you’re on, everyone one of us loves our children and families and our communities. We have that common ground.

If we start there and agree on that. We can come together. We can change this political environment and create a world that takes care of our planet, our families, and our communities.

I know I sound naïve. After all, it’s such a simple solution. But most solutions are when you take away all the baloney. So, this holiday season lets go to our families with the idea of strengthening our connections. Put all the political baloney to the side where it belongs.
