"The Hobbit": Returning to Middle Earth

Posted on the 20 November 2012 by Caz @LetsGoToTheMov7

With the up and coming release of the first installment of ‘The Hobbit’ next month I am very much looking forward to returning to Middle Earth. The Lord of the Rings trilogy really started my love for films, I have honestly lost count how many times I have seen each film. Especially the extended edition DVDs and now Blu Rays. I watched everything off them as well, the interviews, how they built the set and what went into making the incredible Middle Earth world we see on the screen. I was totally obsessed, I had so many different books, I had all versions of the DVDs and then now the Blu Ray extended editions. I have recently been watching them (again) and I honestly know all of the words for the extended editions I don’t think I would like the normal editions now. I wonder if this is something we will also get with The Hobbit?

But that I also watched all three films with the cast commentary on, honestly I love the cast and it started an obsession with Orlando Bloom. Still have a slight soft spot for him, will he actually prove he can act? I guess we still cannot really answer that but I would love to see that he can. I have actually seen nearly all of this films . . .

Returning to Middle Earth

The return of Gandalf probably excites me as much as the return to Middle Earth. As let’s face it Sir Ian McKellen is just incredible in that role. So many key moments and I am sure we will enjoy him just as much in the Hobbit. A new adventure, with many new characters. I like that Peter Jackson has decided to make it into 3 parts and using other material from Tolkien’s work giving us even more Middle Earth to really enjoy and get into. I trust that this will be an incredible adventure as was Lord of the Rings. I am sure some people will complain but we have to see something special when moving from a book onto the big screen. It has to be epic and that is why we must trust Jackson, he made me really love films. The Lord of the Rings really is how I got into watching movies and thinking about how adventure films were made. It really is not an easy task. But he created a whole world for those films and he has gone and done it all over again for The Hobbit.

Returning to Middle Earth

We will get to find out how exactly Bilbo Baggins of the Shire managed to find the One Ring. The most powerful ring ever created and how this would impact his life and that of his nephew Frodo. But we already know what happens with Frodo and the ring. Seeing Bilbo and his meeting with Gollum is something else I am really looking forward to from The Hobbit.

We have been given two incredible trailers, one which I think was from last year or at least the very start of this year. The most recent I first saw when watching Sky Fall at the cinema. It really does look good with Gandalf doing the main talking over the second one and making it very exciting to see Middle Earth again. Both trailers help show the many new characters we are going to meet in the form of Dwarves.

Returning to Middle Earth

Bilbo Baggins always talked about his great adventures and bragged about the things he had seen. A dragon was also mentioned but did anyone really believe him? Well now we get the chance to go on these adventures with Bilbo filling in some of the gaps in Lord of the Rings. We all want to see what Bilbo done in his time and if it was all true. I think it’s such a good approach to take for this film as it really is going to be an incredible adventure.

I had been planning to read the book again but I think I may have run out of time now. It was 10 years ago now since I read it, after I’d read Lord of the Rings. I actually remember liking it better as it was slightly easier to read. I guess I need to give it ago and try to read it again before the film comes out in less than a months time now. I will still read it again and followed by Lord of the Rings as I have only read them both once!

Who else is looking forward to heading back to Middle Earth???
