The Heat Hasn’t Been Reviewed by Critics Yet. Should We Be Worried?

The Heat opens on Friday, and the trailers have been getting everyone excited so far. Comedy this summer has been hit and miss, with audiences AND critics. The Hangover 3 is the highest grossing of the summer, but still hasn’t surpassed Identity Thief from earlier this year. So audiences are starved for a good comedy. Naturally, this comedy seems to be The Heat.

But why is there only one review on Rotten Tomatoes?

White House Down, which waited until this week to release the film to critics, has 15 reviews posted, and is tracking at 53% on Rotten Tomatoes. And that’s an action film starring Channing Tatum.

Why are they holding off on the highly-anticipated Melissa McCarthy comedy? She’s currently the star of 2013′s top grossing comedy, it seems like a slam dunk. Despicable Me 2 is already at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes with 15 reviews, The Way Way Back is 88% with 17 reviews. Even The Conjuring, which is a few weeks out has screened for critics. 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.  If the studio was really confident about The Heat, they would screen it early.

This means, of course, it’s probably terrible. Sorry, gang.
