Getting dressed for a club can be a tricky thing, but if you have some go-to ideas and rules to create your outfits by, you can always make sure that you will look amazing and will have a good time.
The reason why it’s important to be appropriately dressed at a club is because it will make you confident to interact with people and will open doors for communication, which is what clubs are all about.
Our tips for dressing up in a club are very flexible and can be adapted to your personal style. This way, you will be able to convey your personality and you will make a good impression. Depending on the club, these recommendations can be adapted, as many night clubs these days have their own dress codes.
Your goal in a conventional club is to be approachable, which is why you should look good, but keep it in line with the context.
Discover some recommendations and outfit suggestions below.
Casual suit
While a dress suit is something that works in any context, a casual suit is better suited for a club. Don’t go for a dark suit, go for something more dynamic and youthful, such as a navy or gray suit. Of course, you can also opt for a light print or pattern, but we don’t recommend going over the top and extremely flashy or colorful. This way, you will distract people from you.
A casual suit is a great option, as it strikes a balance between being dressed up and being casual.
Casual suits are great because they can be mixed with many shoe options. For example, they go very well with slip-on suede shoes, but they also go with sneakers, if the dress code of your club allows.
As an important note, remember that you should wear a good, breathable undershirt when wearing a suit, as you probably don’t want to show off sweat stains on your shirt.
Sports jacket, t-shirt and jeans
Wearing a sports jacket, a t-shirt and a pair of jeans is a casual play on the casual suit. It still looks polished and structured (especially if you add accessories such as a belt) and it allows you feel more comfortable.
When you are wearing a t-shirt with a sports jacket on top, you can wear a t-shirt that features a design in the upper half, as the Attire Club t-shirts, which allow you to have something interesting going on visually even if you close your jacket.
This type of outfit is really amazing, as you can wear it with almost any type of shoes: you can wear it with oxfords or derbies and even with Chelsea boots, but you can also wear it with sneakers.
Vest looks
A third type of look we enjoy is a look that features a vest, without a jacket.
It can be a vest with buttons or one that doesn’t feature any buttons. Both types go with both a dress t-shirt (or even a polo shirt) or a dress shirt and can be easily styled up or down.
Vests allow you a lot of movement and they also allow you to look more free.
Additional information: Club don’ts
Coats or other outerwear is generally not recommended to be worn in a club. This type of garment, especially if it features fur, is quite heavy and warm and you will get too hot and uncomfortable.
Shorts are great pieces, but for the daytime. Shorts don’t look great in conventional club and neither do three quarter pants.
Additional information: Accessories
When you are hitting the club, it’s good to wear a few accessories. However, we don’t recommend accessories that tend to float away from your body. For example, chains, ties or hats are not very good items to wear in a club. The reason for this is that they can easily get lost or get caught into something or someone.
Instead, reach for a nice watch, a belt or a bracelet.
When you are going to a club, what you generally want from a sartorial point of view is to ride the fine line between being dressy and casual. While a lot depends on the place where you will go, generally you don’t want to be neither overdressed nor underdressed. You don’t want to look to dressy, but you also don’t want to look too casual. Wearing fitting pieces that have a rather dressy look to them, as the ones we discussed, will make you feel right at home.
Or well, at the club.
