If your heart doesn’t grow three times it’s normal size by the end of The Grinch, you may need to watch it again.
So, we all know the story. The Grinch hates Christmas and everything to do with it, while the Whos go above and beyond when it comes to a holiday happy. In order to battle this, The Grinch is determined to destroy Christmas for everyone in Whoville until he realizes that the Whos don’t just need things to celebrate. It is a holiday that they hold in their hearts which makes The Grinch take back everything he stole and he comes to enjoy the holiday with the Whos.
But, on the magical journey of The Grinch (Benedict Cumberbatch), we get to see more. We get to see why The Grinch became so grinchy. We get to know the story of Cindy-Lou Who (Cameron Seely). We get to see a lot more of the beleaguered dog Max. Plus, there are so many more characters thrown into the mix.
What I really loved about this movie, though I have to admit I was also thrown by it, was the way the scenery moved around, especially in the beginning. You can see exactly how the movie could translate into 3D without ever going for the upgrade. However, if you have motion sickness, you may wish to close your eyes for at least the first few minutes of the movie for sure. There are a few other scenes where this is applicable to as well, but they come and go a lot faster than the beginning sequence.
If you are expecting the meanest Grinch you ever saw, you may wish to skip this telling of the tale. This one takes a little bit of a softer side. You can easily see that in the way he treats Max and his new reindeer friend, Fred. Though there are a few glimpses as to just how mean he can be in a few scenes, this Grinch you can easily see being the one that can have feelings by the end of the movie.
My boys left the theater in full out Christmas mode. They were ready to start decorating the tree and everything and it was barely just days after Halloween. All three of them gave the movie a resounding 5 out 5 stars. My youngest asked if he could go as high as six even with the five-star rating. I fully agreed with the five stars. This movie is definitely going to be purchased and placed in my holiday viewing pile in the years to come.
