The background
As anyone who has ever played football will know controlling the ball on your chest and then booming the ball directly into the opposition goal from your own half is no walk in the park. In fact, it’s practically impossible.
So that’s why it’s all the more amazing that that’s exactly what a goalkeeper (yes, goalkeeper) recently achieved in a Swiss amateur league game. In Dardania Lausanne’s comfortable 6-1 victory over Genolier-Begnins, maverick Dominique Niederhauser raced out of his own 18-yard box, chested it down and then launched a a 75-yard shot high and over his desperately backpedalling opposite number.
The Guardian is already describing the “incredible” strike as a “goal of the season” contender. The Periscope Post sports desk hasn’t been watching much amateur Swiss footy of late (!) but Niederhauser’s thunderbolt sure has to be up there with the best. YouTubers are clearly impressed – it’s raced to almost 250,000 views.

Everyone loves a scoring keeper, not least when he volleys it from inside his half! Step forward Dominique Niederhauser bit.ly/Ql5NM8
